Social Media is More Accurately "Social Competition"

So called "social media" is in need of a rebranding, and I propose the new title of "Social Competition".    Most of it is merely a playground for pride, envy and the "self".  It's a fantasy land of comparing yourself and your life to what others portray of themselves in the hopes that you believe it when most likely they themselves don't even believe it about themselves.  There is no thinking or precision, it is just constant, never ending images and short outbursts of one word or one liners.  And I realize blogs can be right on the razor's edge of all that described above; but primarily when I speak of "social media" I mean Facebook, Instagram, Twitter, and Snapchat.  It is only increasing widespread discontentment, envy, and hatred of fellow Image bearers.

I know, I know....   "But Corey, everyone is on it!"  So?  It's sucking up your valuable time, distracting you from what's important, and pulling you away from REAL social times with people who are actually present with you and not on a computer screen.  Seriously, I hate to be a "hard ass" about this but this really is not even a moderately difficult decision.  Our tools are not any longer being used by us but we are letting them control us.  That's not what tools are for.  Tools are to be controlled and used.  Just get off the garbage and don't look back.

Here's a new study that shows all of it isn't too good for you: Social media use increases depression and loneliness
