RePost: The Lord's Supper Needs to be that -- a SUPPER

Why are we content having the Lord's Supper while staring at the back of the heads of our brothers and sisters in Christ during our worship services?  Or worse perhaps, standing in a line so a priest can place a pressed, circular item called (ironically) a wafer into your mouth accompanied by a sip of wine and a genuine, generic prayer?
By all appearances it would seem that what we Christians think Jesus said to the disciples at the Last Supper went something like this: "Hey, guys, I know we're all having a nice meal here tonight, but going forward, I wantcha to forget this "meal thing".  Rather, until I return, what I need you to do when you come together to worship me is to make absolutely sure everyone is in nice, neat rows not looking at one-another.  Everyone that is except for Peter.  Peter needs to be somewhere up front so everyone can watch him.  Then pass out bits of stale crackers or bread to everyone at the show... ah...er...gathering, and make certain to pair it up with something in a very tiny glass to drink. Preferably made from a grape in some way or another.  Anyway, that's it.  Stay strong.  Enjoy."
Does this reflect a robust faith or an emaciated one?  Why on Earth are we not basking in what Jesus did while looking at one-another, drinking wine, breaking bread, and reveling in a true agape meal just as He did? (1Cor. 11:25 / Mark 14:22 / Luke 22:20; 24:29-30 / Matt. 26:26)
How have we been bamboozled into eating a mere symbol of a meal 52 times a year (or monthly, or business quarterly) with crackers/bread chunks and a thimble/glass of grape product?  How is it that we expect this to strengthen our faith, all the while being squeezed into rows (stalls?) like cattle?

We aren't really serious about all this...are we?

  2. Whether you eat, drink, or whatsoever you do, do all to the glory of God. If modern and organized religion does not offer you what you are looking for then look to James for what you need-Keep yourself from the things of this world and care for the needy and remember that by loving each other you reveal God to the world.
